Ingredients
- 2) 15 oz canned tomato (plain sauce or puree)
- 1/2 medium onion
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 5 to 8 fresh basil leaves
- 1 to 1.5 tablespoons salt (to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon Pepper (to taste)
Directions
First place olive oil in a saucepan or pot, finely chop your onions and garlic. And when your oil is hot add your onions first, let them sweat a bit till almost translucent (don’t let them brown) While your onions are sweating peel and chop your garlic. And you then place in your garlic and stir until you can smell that sweet garlic aroma. And then will add your tomato puree, basil, salt, and pepper to taste. Let this simmer for a minimum of 15 minutes. Also, remember the longer you simmer the better the flavor of your Marinara will be. Finally, serve on pasta or use for pizza…enjoy!
Tips:
Customizing your marinara sauce is a great way to make it uniquely yours and enhance its flavor profile. Here are some tips to get you started:
- Add Fresh Herbs: Incorporate fresh herbs like oregano, thyme, or parsley to deepen the flavor. Basil is classic, but experimenting with others can add a new twist.
- Spice it Up: For a bit of heat, add red pepper flakes or finely chopped jalapeños. Adjust the amount to suit your heat preference.
- Incorporate Vegetables: Sauté onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms before adding the tomatoes for added depth and sweetness. Carrots can also be blended in for a subtle sweetness.
- Infuse with Cheese: Stir in grated Parmesan or Pecorino Romano cheese for a rich, savory kick. You can also top your sauce with fresh mozzarella for a delicious finish.
