Tips:

To store homemade pesto and keep it fresh, follow these simple steps:

  1. Airtight Container: Transfer your pesto to a clean, airtight container to minimize exposure to air, which can cause oxidation and discoloration.
  2. Olive Oil Layer: Pour a thin layer of extra virgin olive oil over the surface of the pesto before sealing the container. This acts as a barrier, preventing air from reaching the pesto and helps maintain its vibrant color and flavor.
  3. Refrigeration: Store the pesto in the refrigerator if you plan to use it within a week. It should last about 5 to 7 days when properly stored.
  4. Freezing for Long-Term Storage: For longer storage, consider freezing your pesto. You can freeze it in ice cube trays for easy portioning, then transfer the frozen cubes to a zip-top bag. This method allows you to enjoy fresh pesto anytime you need it!

By following these storage methods, you can ensure your homemade pesto stays flavorful and ready to enhance your dishes.
